How do I make a reservation? Do I need to pay a deposit?

For reservations, please kindly book via email at sales@smartcarrental.com.sg or call us at +65 6485 7777 (extension 1).

Total vehicle rental price must be paid fully in advance to Smart Car Rental prior to the start of rental / car delivery (for Standard rentals and Advance booking for Special periods e.g. Chinese New Year or Hari Raya package) to confirm the reservation.

You may make payment by PayNow, bank transfer or Credit Card. However please note that Hirer must own a valid credit card (card must be under Hirer name; debit cards are NOT accepted) and present the card during vehicle pick up as we strictly require credit card authorization for security deposit. If Hirer does not have a valid credit card, Smart reserves the right to reject or cancel the reservation at any time.

Please note we will only confirm your reservation and reserve the selected vehicle for you once we have successfully received the payment in our company account. You will receive a reservation confirmation email from us.


What is the insurance coverage included in my rental?

Comprehensive motor insurance is included in the rental charge with an excess of S$2500 for cars 1,600cc or below and S$3500 for cars above 1,600cc for each and every accident/damage (Singapore use). Collision Damage Waiver to reduce the excess is optional at S$20.00 per day before GST.


What payment methods are accepted ?

We accept all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Diners and American Express), Paynow or online bank transfer. Cash/cheque is not accepted. Regardless of chosen payment method, Hirer must own a valid credit card under his name as we strictly require credit card authorization for security and compliance purposes.

Payment must be made latest upon collection of the vehicle at our office or before collection in the case of deliveries.


What are your driver requirements for rental?

All drivers must be:

– aged between 23-65

-possess a valid driving license in English with a qualified driving experience of at least two years *

-drivers with foreign driving license must bring proof of address e.g. phone bill/ electricity bill.

– have valid passport/NRIC

– have a valid credit card under hirer name

*All Singaporeans and Singapore permanent residents, even those who are living abroad, need a valid Singapore Driving License to drive in Singapore. Permanent Residents must convert foreign driving licenses to Singapore license after obtaining citizenship or PR status. Foreigners will need to show a valid foreign driving license and an International Driving Permit (IDP) OR possess an official translation of your foreign driving license in English if no IDP. If you are from any ASEAN member countries, then a valid foreign driving license is sufficient and IDP is not required. For long-term pass holders including Employment Pass (EP), long-term visit pass (LTVP) etc., foreign license is only valid for a period of 12 months of arrival in Singapore, after which it is compulsory to convert to a Singaporean license to drive in Singapore.

Please note that Smart reserves the right to refuse rental to any customer at any time who (in Smart’s opinion) does not meet the company’s eligibility requirements and/or is not compliant with the laws & regulations of Singapore and/or is unfit to drive. In these circumstances no refund will be due.


Can another person drive the rental vehicle?

Yes, you may add an additional driver at no surcharge and subject to Smart’s written approval and the rental agreement terms (see our driver requirements above). Additional driver’s details and valid driving licence must be provided to us 24 hours in advance and registered in the agreement at time of rental. Both hirer and additional driver must be 23-65 years old with a minimum 2 years driving experience. Kindly note if an unauthorised person who was not recorded as an additional driver in the rental agreement drives the vehicle, any damage to the vehicle or other third party vehicles will not be covered by the insurance company.


Do you provide delivery and collection services?

Delivery and Collection charges & services available on request and subject to availability. If you require delivery/collection services, kindly let us know by phone or email at least 48 hours in advance of your rental. Our business hours for delivery and collection are 0900-1730 on weekdays, 0900 to 1230 on Saturdays. We are closed on Sundays. We also provide airport transfer services subject to availability.


Can I drive the rental car to Malaysia?

Driving to Malaysia is currently not permitted.

The HIRER shall not take the vehicle out of the Republic of Singapore without the prior permission or written consent of SMART, otherwise the HIRER will not be covered by insurance and shall be held fully liable and responsible for all costs and expenses including but not limited to the damages, repairs, towing fees, fines or claims of any nature.


What should I do if my vehicle breaks down?

Please call our 24 hours Emergency Service at 9181 6759/ 9685 9830/ 6485 7777 and our operations team will advise you over the phone plus assist you within 2 hours. In the meantime, keep calm and do the following:

1. When traffic is clear, get to a safe place to park away from the main road (leftmost lane road shoulder, roadside parking etc) as safely and quickly as possible.

2. If you’re not able to move the car then put the hazard lights ON and open your car boot to warn other drivers. If it’s safe to do so, place the warning sign (red triangle) about 20-30 meters behind your car to signal to incoming vehicles.

3. Get all passengers out of the car and make sure that everyone keeps a distance between the car and oncoming traffic. While waiting for tow truck or roadside assistance, stand behind and away from the vehicle, behind a barrier if on a highway.

Please note that punctured tyres, empty petrol tank, loss or damage of vehicle’s keys, keys locked inside vehicle, or any other event resulting in the breakdown of the Vehicle due to the Hirer’s negligence or wilful act or omission, cost of such response trip may be chargeable to hirer.


Can I extend my rental period?

You may extend your rental period beyond the agreed return time/date with at least 24 hours advance notice in writing to Smart Car Rental, subject to availability and any revised rates (if any). Payment for the extended rental must be made in advance so that insurance coverage can be extended accordingly.


Can I return the vehicle late?

Please call or message our outlet beforehand if you wish to drop the car off after usual return hours: 0900-1730 on weekdays, 0900 to 1230 on Saturdays (excluding PH).

We offer 30 minute grace period for all rental returns.

Late Car Return is subject to fees amounting to 20% of the daily rental rate per hour after original return timing. Weekdays return latest by 5.30pm and Saturday return latest by 1pm.


Do I need to top up fuel before returning the car?

Kindly top up the car to original checkout fuel level at the nearest gas station before returning to avoid being charged for the fuel difference as well as S$15.00 refuelling service fee. Cost of petrol/diesel will be based on prevailing retail pump prices.


Can I cancel my reservation or return the vehicle early?

Please contact SMART by phone (+65 6485 7777 ext1) or by email to confirm the cancellation, postponement or amendment (e.g. early return) at least 48 hours in advance in order not to incur any penalty or fees, failing which SMART reserves the right to charge the HIRER for the full rental cost without refund

If you do not collect your car on the day of collection with no cancellation notice given your booking will be cancelled with no refund. Similarly if we do not receive notice 48 hours in advance you will not receive a refund for the unused days.


How do I know if my booking is confirmed?

We will send you a reservation confirmation by email. You should print this and keep it for your records. Our team may also contact you via email or phone to confirm your rental details and obtain necessary hirer information. If you still do not receive any confirmation email in your inbox/spam after making payment, please contact us ASAP at sales@smartcarrental.com.sg. When you collect your car you will receive a Rental Agreement with the details and T&C of the rental.


Are child-seats/GPS available?

Rental of GPS and child seats can be requested for a small fee at the time of reservation. We will do our best to honour your requests for such additional accessories, however we are unable to guarantee them on the online reservation as some items may be subject to availability. *Please note that Singapore law states that motor vehicle passengers under 1.35m must be secured with an appropriate restraint such as booster seat or adjustable seat belt.


What other things do I need to take note of during my rental?

PROHIBITED ITEMS: As we strive to provide every customer a high level of comfort, we seek our customer’s understanding that durian, pets, spilllage and smoking are not allowed in the rental vehicle. In case the car requires a special cleaning procedure (i.e. smell removal; animal pollution; stains, damage to the upholstery, dashboard or interior of the Vehicle, dirt/sand etc.) upon return, downtime and cleaning costs may be chargeable.

CASHCARD: Please note that you should have a Cashcard with sufficient balance and inserted in the in-vehicle unit (IU) in advance to prevent ERP fines and easy exit from carparks.

OTHER DAMAGES: Lost/damaged key, damages to windscreen or window panels and tyre are chargeable
